Honda ZR-V – a new-generation hybrid SUV between HR-V and CR-V
The Honda ZR-V is a new addition to the European Honda lineup, positioned between the compact HR-V and the larger CR-V. Built on the same platform as the Civic XI, it offers excellent driving stability, refined handling and a quiet, efficient hybrid powertrain. Introduced in Europe in 2023, the ZR-V is available exclusively as a full hybrid (e:HEV), ensuring low fuel consumption and high reliability.
Hybrid powertrain – 2.0 i-VTEC LFB17 + dual-motor e:HEV system
European ZR-V models (2023–2026) feature the latest generation of Honda’s e:HEV system. The powertrain combines a 2.0 i-VTEC LFB17 petrol engine operating in the Atkinson cycle with two electric motors – a drive motor and a generator motor. This setup delivers:
- maximum system output of 184 PS,
- smooth and quiet EV-like operation in urban conditions,
- real-world fuel economy of 5.7–6.7 l/100 km,
- a naturally aspirated engine (no turbocharger) for improved durability,
- direct fuel injection (DI) for efficient combustion.
The hybrid system works with dedicated e:HEV transmissions marked CERE and CEGE, which require specific HEVF TYPE-1 fluid.
Service parts and maintenance components for ZR-V e:HEV
Most service components used in the ZR-V are designed specifically for Honda’s hybrid systems. Certain items – such as the engine air filter and cabin filter – share specifications with the Civic XI e:HEV. Other parts, especially those related to the hybrid transmission, are unique to the ZR-V and require genuine Honda components.
Key maintenance parts for Honda ZR-V e:HEV:
- Engine air filter 17220-6MA-J01
- Cabin air filter (standard or anti-allergen type)
- Hybrid transmission filter 25420-5Y4-003
- Iridium spark plugs for the 2.0 LFB17 engine
- HEVF TYPE-1 fluid for the e:HEV transmission
- 0W20 engine oil meeting Honda specifications
Hybrid systems operate under high thermal stability and require parts that maintain precise tolerances. Using Honda OEM components ensures reliable performance and prevents issues typical for non-hybrid-rated aftermarket parts.
Driving characteristics and owner impressions
ZR-V owners highlight several consistent strengths:
- excellent cabin refinement and low noise levels,
- stable and confident handling thanks to Civic-derived chassis,
- very good fuel efficiency in city and mixed driving,
- smooth drivetrain transitions between EV, Hybrid and Engine modes,
- high long-term reliability due to the non-turbo engine design.
Thanks to its size and engineering, the ZR-V slots perfectly between HR-V and CR-V, blending compact dimensions with strong performance.
Useful technical notes for ZR-V owners
Several questions frequently arise among ZR-V e:HEV drivers. Below are the most relevant technical facts based on official Honda documentation:
- Turbocharging: the LFB17 engine is naturally aspirated – no turbocharger.
- Fuel injection: the engine uses direct injection (DI).
- Oil type: Honda-approved 0W20 is required.
- Hybrid gearbox fluid: only HEVF TYPE-1 is permitted.
- Compatibility with Civic e:HEV: some filters are shared, but transmission parts are model-specific.
Why choose Honda OEM parts for ZR-V?
Honda’s hybrid components operate under more demanding conditions than traditional petrol engines. OEM parts provide:
- precision fit and correct tolerances,
- proper thermal resistance,
- long-term material stability,
- no risk of hybrid system errors or performance loss.
This category contains carefully selected OEM and premium-quality replacement parts designed to meet the technical requirements of the Honda ZR-V e:HEV.
