PTFE 3 mm thermal throttle body gasket – replaces 16176-PW0-G01

This high-quality thermal insulating throttle body gasket is made from PTFE (Teflon) with a thickness of 3 mm. It is a direct replacement for the original Honda gasket 16176-PW0-G01, used in early VTEC B-series engines, specifically the B16A1 found in Civic EE9 and CRX EE8.

PTFE significantly reduces heat transfer from the intake manifold to the throttle body. This helps stabilise intake air temperatures, reduces heat-soak and improves throttle consistency — especially important in high-revving engines like the B16A1.

Applications – compatible models

  • Honda Civic 1990–1991 – EE9 (B16A1)
  • Honda CRX 1990–1991 – EE8 (B16A1)

OEM replacement number: 16176-PW0-G01.

PTFE material characteristics

PTFE is an excellent insulating material with extremely low thermal conductivity. It is highly resistant to heat, deformation and automotive fluids, making it ideal for performance applications.

  • Thermal resistance: continuous operation up to +260°C, peak up to +300°C.
  • Chemical resistance: unaffected by petrol, oils or solvents.
  • Very low thermal conductivity: effectively limits throttle body heat transfer.
  • Non-melting, self-extinguishing: UL94 compliant.
  • High dimensional stability: maintains shape under clamping force and temperature.

Benefits of a PTFE throttle body gasket

  • reduces heat transfer from the intake manifold,
  • minimises heat-soak during hot restarts,
  • helps stabilise intake air temperature,
  • improves throttle consistency at high RPM,
  • simple plug-and-play installation.

FAQ – PTFE throttle body gasket for B16A1

Does this gasket fit the B16A2?

No. This gasket fits only the B16A1. The B16A2 uses a different throttle body design (OBD1/OBD2 style), which requires a different gasket shape.

Why is the B16A1 gasket different from other B-series engines?

The B16A1 in EE8/EE9 uses an OBD0 throttle body with different vacuum ports, bolt spacing and overall shape. Later engines like B16A2/B18C use updated OBD1/OBD2 designs, making their gaskets non-interchangeable.

Does the 3 mm thickness affect throttle body fitment?

No. The thickness is correct for the B16A1 manifold and does not require any modification.

Does PTFE really reduce heat-soak?

Yes. PTFE has extremely low thermal conductivity, helping keep the throttle body cooler during aggressive driving or when sitting in traffic with a hot engine.

Do I need to use silicone or RTV with this gasket?

No. PTFE seals properly without additional gasket sealants.
