Honda OEM 5.5 mm valve stem seals 16 pcs

Genuine Honda OEM valve stem seal set with a 5.5 mm valve stem diameter, designed for a wide range of Honda petrol engines. The kit includes seals for both intake and exhaust valves and fully follows the factory Honda specification. In many cases this is exactly the part that solves blue smoke on start-up and increased oil consumption with otherwise good compression.

Depending on current availability we supply genuine Honda valve stem seals from one of the approved OEM suppliers: NOK USA, NOK Japan or ARS Japan. All variants meet the same factory specification, are fully interchangeable for the given application and fit the same engines.

Applications

Honda OEM 5.5 mm valve stem seals are used in many popular Honda petrol engines, including for example:

  • D-series engines 1.3–1.6 (selected D13, D14, D15, D16 versions),
  • B-series engines 1.6–1.8 (B16, B18 – selected versions),
  • H22 and selected F-series engines,
  • R18 and R20 engines and newer L-series units (1.2–1.5),
  • selected K20/K24 engines,
  • some J/C/G-series V6 engines.

A detailed list of engines with 5.5 mm valve stems (D/B/H/K/F/R/L/J/C) and a comparison with 6.6 mm seals can be found in our technical article:

OEM reference numbers

Honda OEM 5.5 mm valve stem seals correspond to several factory part numbers. For example, for the PZ1 series:

  • 12210-PZ1-004 – intake valve stem seals,
  • 12211-PZ1-004 – exhaust valve stem seals.

These OEM numbers should be treated as reference numbers – the correct 5.5 mm set is always selected based on the engine code and the official Honda parts catalogue. Depending on the batch, the kit may contain seals branded NOK USA, NOK Japan or ARS Japan, but all of them follow the same Honda specification.

If you are not sure whether this set is correct for your engine, compare the OEM part number with the service catalogue or contact us with your engine code, model and year of the car before ordering.

When should valve stem seals be replaced?

Replacing the 5.5 mm valve stem seals is recommended when you notice for example:

  • blue smoke from the exhaust on start-up (especially after the car has been parked for a longer time),
  • blue smoke after long engine braking and then applying throttle again,
  • increased oil consumption with no visible external oil leaks.

If compression is still good but the engine starts to burn oil and smoke after a standstill, in many cases a new set of genuine Honda OEM valve stem seals is enough to cure the problem without a bottom-end overhaul.

Installation and service tips

  • always replace the complete set of valve stem seals on all valves in the engine,
  • use a proper installation tool to avoid damaging the sealing lip,
  • protect the valve stem grooves and edges during installation (for example with a thin tube or protective sleeve),
  • do not mix intake and exhaust seals – make sure the correct type is used on each side,
  • after reassembling the cylinder head it is recommended to check and, if necessary, adjust valve clearances.

After replacement there may be a short “burn-off” period, while remaining oil in the exhaust ports is being burned. After a brief running time the engine should stop smoking on start-up and the oil level should stabilise.

FAQ – Honda OEM 5.5 mm valve stem seals

Will I receive NOK USA, NOK Japan or ARS Japan seals?

Depending on current availability in the Honda distribution network, the kit may contain seals from one of the three approved OEM suppliers: NOK USA, NOK Japan or ARS Japan. All of them meet the same Honda factory specification and are fully interchangeable in the specified applications.

How do I know that this is the correct 5.5 mm set for my engine?

The key is the engine code (for example D16Y, B16A, H22A, R18A, K20A) and the OEM part number from the Honda catalogue. If your engine is listed among the 5.5 mm applications and the OEM reference matches, this is the correct set. If in doubt, check our technical article on Honda valve stem seals or contact support with your engine code before ordering.

Do I need to adjust valve clearances after replacing the seals?

On most Honda engines with mechanical valve adjustment it is recommended to check and, if needed, reset valve clearances after replacing the seals. This ensures proper valvetrain operation, quiet running and full service life of the new seals.
