The Elring 706.120 cylinder head bolt set is a complete kit of 10 new head bolts for many Honda D-series petrol engines from 1.3 to 1.7 litres. These are modern torque-to-yield (stretch) bolts, designed to provide a stable and even clamping force on the head gasket – essential after any head gasket replacement, head skim or major engine rebuild. Using a fresh set of head bolts significantly reduces the risk of head gasket failure, coolant loss and loss of compression in your D-series engine.

Why new head bolts are recommended
Honda D-series engines use torque-to-yield head bolts. During installation these bolts are tightened first to a specified torque and then by angle, which deliberately stretches the material. This ensures an even clamping load, but also means:
- the bolts should not be reused after they have been tightened once,
- reusing old bolts may lead to insufficient or uneven clamping force,
- this can cause head gasket leaks, coolant entering the combustion chamber or oil passages, and loss of compression.

1. Can I reuse my old D-series head bolts?
It is not recommended. These are stretch bolts, designed for one tightening cycle only.
Reusing them can result in uneven or insufficient clamping force and may quickly damage even a new head gasket.
